Type of Chinese Tea: Green Tea

  • Dragon Well Tea: In the old days, Chinese emperors drank tribute tea. After thousands of years, hundreds of these teas were perished or forgotten. Today, only one survives: the Tribute Dragon Well tea. It is collected by the Chinese White House and the best grade bearing the Tribute seal goes directly to the Chinese President. It is also called Longjing and is known as a favorite tea of today's top leaders in China. So you might ask, what makes the Dragon Well Tea so special?

  • Concentrated Nutrients: A 2004 study conducted by the UK Institute of Food Research analysed 191 green teas from 6 different countries. The paper singles out Dragon Well tea as the "highest quality" and says it contains higher levels of theanine, EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) and other active compounds. Theanine is the single most important indicator of green tea quality. It counteracts caffeine side effects and has a wonderful soothing effect. EGCG is by far the most important of green tea antioxidants and has been proven to slow down aging, help you lose weight, prevent cancers etc.

  • Naturally Organic: When you drink the Dragon Well tea, you are protected by its triple guarantees. The tea buds are so young that they contain little, if any, environmental contaminants. The crops are harvested early when little insects exist. And you are drinking the same cup of tea as the Chinese President! Pretty deep huh?

  • Origin: Fuding City, Fujian Province, China.

  • Dry leaves appearance: Leaves are skinny and “unevenly” shaped due to the age of the tea trees and the fully hand processing method.
  • Fragrance: Pleasant and deep “sauté” bean fragrance in good purity, smooth and delicate.

  • Taste: Freshness is the first impression. It shows a slight citrus hint at the beginning followed by a pronouncing nutty flavour. An exquisite aftertaste flatters the mouth after swallowing.

  • Liquor: Shinny and “grassy” pale yellow liquor with excellent clarity that tells the tea is indeed a high mountain plantation. Thick and “oily” liquor offers a good mouth feeling, which is smooth and lively.

  • Tea storage: Keep the tea in a cool and dry place, avoid direct sunlight.

  • Tea brewing: Put 2-3 grams of the Longjing tea into a tea pot. Steep for three minutes with 85 degree water for a healthy and new beverage. The tea leaves can be eaten after infusion.

Manufacturer: Yida Tea Company Limited, Fujian Province, China.
