Type of Chinese Tea: Oolong Tea

  • Origin: Wuyi Mountain, Fujian Province, China.

  • About wu yi tea: This tea is a distinctive, complex oolong tea that comes from the Wuyi Mountains located in the northwest part of the Fujian province of China. The Wuyi Mountains are special because they have a unique blend of climate, altitude and soil conditions that produce wu yi teas of exceptional character. The Wuyi Mountains serve as a protective barrier from the cold air coming in from the northwest, while they also retain warm, moist air coming from the sea. The result is a humid climate with a large amount of rainfall. This climate also helps create the common mist or fog that often surrounds the tops of these mountains. This wuyi rock tea is also named Da Hong Pao and is one of the most famous oolong tea in China.

  • Taste and aroma: Oolong teas are complicated and sophisticated containing a variety of flavours, aftertastes and aromas, but the wu yi tea is possibly the most complex of Chinese oolong teas. Some of the unique properties of the tea come from the mineral rich soil of Wu Yi Shan. This Da Hong Pao imparts a roasted mineral flavour, with a sweet aftertaste and no bitterness. The distinct taste has sometimes been described as a crag bone floral fragrance, having a full bodied flavour with an orchid fragrance.

  • Health benefits: For over 400 years asians have been drinking wu yi tea for it's natural slimming effect and other natural health benefits. It can help to reduces the risk of heart attack, protects against cancer, strengthens bones and protects against tooth plaque and decay

  • Tea storage: Keep the tea in a cool and dry place, avoid direct sunlight.

  • Tea brewing: Brew 2 teaspoons of leaves with hot water (80-90 degree) for three minutes. Tea can be steeped 3-4 times depending how your preference. Don’t throw out the leaves until they had completely given up!
