Type of Chinese Tea: Oolong Tea

  • Origin: Fujian Province, China.

  • About wu yi tea: This tea refers to the chinese oolong teas grown in the Wuyi Mountain area and it is not a single variety. Wuyi oolong tea is a distinctive, complex oolong tea that comes from the Wuyi Mountains located in the northwest part of the Fujian province of China. The Wuyi Mountain is special because they have a unique blend of climate, altitude and soil conditions that produce wuyi teas of exceptional character. The Wuyi Mountains serve as a protective barrier from the cold air coming in from the northwest, while they also retain warm, moist air coming from the sea. The result is a humid climate with a large amount of rainfall. This climate also helps create the common mist or fog that often surrounds the tops of these mountains

  • Taste and aroma: Oolong teas are complicated and sophisticated containing a variety of flavours, aftertastes and aromas, but the wuyi oolong is possibly the most complex of Chinese oolong teas. Some of the unique properties of wuyi tea come from the mineral rich soil of Wu Yi Shan. It imparts a roasted mineral flavour, with a sweet aftertaste and no bitterness. The distinct taste has sometimes been described as a crag bone floral fragrance, having a full bodied flavour with an orchid fragrance.

  • Health benefits of tea: Oolong Tea may help reduce cholesterol build-up in the bloodstream, burn fat, prevent heart ailments, promote healthier and stronger bones and also fight against tooth decay.

  • Tea storage: Keep the tea in a cool and dry place, avoid direct sunlight.

  • Tea brewing: Brew 2 teaspoons of wuyi oolong tea with hot water (80-90 degree) for three minutes. Tea can be steeped 3-4 times depending how your preference. Don’t throw out the leaves until they had completely given up!
