Type of Chinese Tea: Black Tea

  • Black tea background: Black tea's popularity surpasses all other teas in the Western world today. Black Tea tastes the least like the natural leaf. Instead of being steamed, the harvested tea leaves are placed on large drying trays and allowed to wither until they are limp. The leaves are then bruised and rolled either by hand or by machine, giving the air and aromatic juices a chance to mix.

  • Origin: Fengqing, Yunnan, China. Well known for black teas and golden bud teas.

  • Dry leaves description: This black china tea is dark as a result of the fermentation process where the leaves are oxidised under controlled temperature and humidity.

  • Taste : Freshness is the first impression followed by a lingering sweet aftertaste after swallowing.

  • Liquor: Yellowish-orange liquid is smooth and light weighted in the mouth.

  • Tea supplements: Vitamins A, B, C, E and K are all found in black tea. These vitamins help to prevent lung cancer and hair loss, strengthen the kidneys, enhance the immune systems and increase blood circulation and metabolism.

  • Black tea benefits: Black tea has many positive effects on health including improving short term memory, weight loss, strengthening heart beats, stimulating the central nervous system and preventing asthma.

  • Tea storage: Keep the tea in a cool and dry place, avoiding direct sunlight. Best to use within 3 years of production.

  • Tea brewing : We recommend using purple clay or porcelain tea ware. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water. Use about 2 grams of tea leaves (1-2 teaspoons) for every 150ml of water. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 100°c (212°F) for one minute for the first and second brewing. Gradually increase steeping time for subsequent brewing. It's important not to over brew the black china tea as it tends to go bitter.
